Many people are eager to start off the new year as a new and improved healthy version of their former self.
But having a desire to be healthy means implementing key disciplines into your daily life – and it all starts with your morning routine.
If you want to maintain optimal health in the new year, it’s critical you get in the habit of doing these 3 things every single morning.
Drink 16oz Of Water
You might wake up with a headache or a parched throat.
Instead of popping pain pills, try drinking 16oz of water.
Our bodies get dehydrated throughout the night, and other sleeping conditions like a warm room can make the body feel even worse in the AM.
Even if you wake up without a headache – it’s still crucial to make it part of your routine to drink 16oz of water.
Remember, throughout the night as you sleep, your body goes without water.
But by drinking 2 glasses each morning, you can rehydrate your body and get ready to face the day!
To make it even easier, place the glass of water on your nightstand the night before so it’s ready to go first thing in the morning.
Choose A Healthy Breakfast
Maybe you are the kind of person who skips breakfast or opts for something quick like a bowl of cereal thinking you can “eat healthy” the other two meals.
But how you start off your day matters.
If you are loading your body with sugar-filled breakfast treats like pastries and overpriced coffee drinks – you are not only depriving your body of key nutrients, but you are putting unnecessary calories and sugar into your body – which will make you feel sluggish throughout the day, not to mention lead you to gain weight.
Instead, opt for a keto-friendly breakfast like bacon and eggs.
You can even pre-make egg “muffins” and freeze ‘em and just warm them up in the morning!
Not much of a breakfast person?
That’s okay – whip up a bulletproof coffee that has healthy fats like gee or MCT oil.
Don’t Neglect Your Mental Health
Having a healthy you is more than just physical health.
In the morning, instead of rushing to get out of the house, take 10-15 minutes and get your head straight.
This could be personalized to your lifestyle and include everything from meditating on Scripture to breathing exercises.
You can even take a few moments to write in your gratitude journal and list things you are thankful for or write down a few health goals you have for the day.
Body and mind work together – make sure to get your mind in a good place before you go and face the day.
Set The Tone Right
Many people ignore their morning routine and can’t seem to figure out why they fail at the rest of their health goals throughout the day.
But don’t underestimate the importance of starting your day off right!
After all, how you begin the morning sets the tone for the entire day.
If you oversleep each day (after staying up all night), wake up and then eat sugar-laced muffins and sugary coffee drinks for breakfast – don’t be surprised when those bad habits carry on throughout the day.
