Headaches are a common ailment affecting Americans of all ages.
From tension headaches to migraines – many people suffer from these crippling headaches and don’t know what the cause is.
And doctors are quick to prescribe headache medication, even as severe as anti-seizure drugs to help people find relief – but the solution to headaches might not even require medication.
So before you give up hope of ever finding headache relief, check out these 4 common reasons that could be causing your headaches.
Many people are so worried their headache is caused by something traumatic like a tumor they forget the basics – like drinking water.
When your body is dehydrated, your electrolytes are unbalanced and the fluid loss can result in headaches.
Medical News Today reported:
“When the body is dehydrated, the brain can temporarily contract or shrink from fluid loss. This mechanism causes the brain to pull away from the skull, causing pain and resulting in a dehydration headache.
One rehydrated, the brain plumps up and returns to its normal state, relieving the headache.”
Remember to drink half of your body weight in ounces a day to stay hydrated (and more if you are exercising or sweating excessively).
And if you drink a lot of coffee – know that caffeine dehydrates you too – and make sure to drink an extra glass or two of water!
Improper Sleeping Position
People sleep in all kinds of positions causing stress and tension on the body and often wake up with headaches.
And many people think all pillows are created equal, and flop down on a typical pillow which fails to properly give the proper support to the head and neck.
But proper neck support is crucial while you sleep!
Make sure you invest in a good pillow that has proper head and neck support so your head is not too high or too low.
Chemicals & Household Products
If your household is loaded with scented candles, plugins, and store-bought chemical cleaning products – you are harming your body in more ways than one.
Not only do these hurt the lungs, but they often cause headaches from breathing in all the chemicals.
If you are still using toxic cleaning products to keep your house clean, consider shifting to more natural products – or even making your own cleaner with white vinegar and essential oils.
And get rid of the plugins and candles!
Diffuse essential oils instead.
This simple switch could make all the difference in the world for your headaches.
Remember, your body is all connected.
Often times if your neck is out of alignment and tense, this can cause your head to roll forward and lead to headaches.
If your hips are off and your back is stiff, it can pull on muscles and radiate up the body, which can result in headaches.
Make chiropractic care and regular massages part of your health routine.
Visiting a chiropractor every 2-3 weeks for those with chronic headaches can help make sure your body stays aligned and it is said to reduce headaches.
