It’s no secret you are what you eat. But in reality, people don’t abide by that at all. Just look at what’s on every corner. McDonald’s. Pizza Hut. KFC. The choices for cheap, fast food are endless. And you know what? They’re killing you.

Take for example a simple McDonald’s cheeseburger. The bread is full of preservatives. The cheese is fake. The ketchup is made of sugar. The burger’s origins are questionable.

But no matter. McDonalds serves billions daily.

It’s fast. It’s easy. It’s cheap. And to be honest, it tastes great. But this is just an example of bad food being a substitute for real food.

Here are some other examples of food you might be eating that have direct links to cancer.

    Artificial Sweeteners

Those pink and blue packs of “sugar” you find on every eatery in the country…. They’re killing you.

A study performed in 2015, for instance, has found sucralose may be associated with a higher risk for leukemia.

    Excessive Alcohol Consumption

Alcohol walks a fine line between improving health and causing it to deteriorate rapidly. According to the Mayo drinking wine in moderation helps reduce heart disease, based on the resveratrol in it. However, alcohol is also linked to liver failure, depression, excess weight and more than one type of cancer. Not only that, but alcohol has addictive properties, which make it hard to quit or drink in moderation.

    Sugary Foods
Humans are wired to eat sugary foods to satisfy the carbohydrate desire, but our programming is not compatible with a lifestyle where sugary foods are available in abundance. Too much sugar in the diet is linked to diabetes and faster reproduction of cancer cells.

Sugary foods include your obvious food like candies and sugary snacks. Less obvious forms of sugar are certain forms of pasta sauce, ketchup, and some yogurts which are laden down with sugar or high fructose corn syrup.

    Farmed Salmon
Salmon is loaded with health benefits. It’s rich in protein and loaded with Omega 3’s. However, there’s a big difference between wild caught salmon and farm-raised salmon. Studies have shown farm-raised salmon has higher levels of mercury than wild caught salmon. This kind of salmon also has higher polychlorinated biphenyls(PCB) according to Environmental Working Group. In fact, it is 16 times higher in farm-raised salmon than wild-caught salmon. The EWG cites PCBS as cancer-causing agents.

PCBs are persistent, cancer-causing chemicals that were banned in the United States in 1976 and are among the “dirty dozen” toxic chemicals slated for global phase-out under the United Nations Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants, signed by President Bush on May 23, 2001. Because of their persistence, PCBs continue to contaminate the environment and the food supply.

There are many other hidden cancer causing agents in fried foods and grilled foods as well. The best thing you can do to prevent cancer is eat a clean diet with lean meats, fruits, vegetables, and nuts. Avoid man-made food like processed foods, fast foods, and sugary drinks.

    Here’s to your health.
