You might have heard of the Dead Sea. It’s one of the only bodies in the world which will allow you to float instantaneously. In fact, it’s almost impossible to sink in the Dead Sea.
And it’s no wonder. The salt level of the Dead Sea is 27% of the total make up compared to the 3% of ocean water.
But it’s not a sea the way many of us think of the ocean. It’s actually a lake located on the eastern border of Israel. And that might be its secret. Because it is completely landlocked, the river feeding it must be bringing in minerals that get concentrated there. There are minerals like magnesium, potassium, zinc, sulfur calcium chloride, and bromide.
This mineral makeup is so incredible it has given the Sea a reputation for incredible healing powers. In fact, Flavius Josephus documented this even as far back as Jesus’ time ( a man he also documented as existing!).
And in recent years, scientists have turned those rumors into scientifically-backed studies. For example, psoriasis is one such malady Dead Sea salts have treated. Psoriasis is a condition in which skin cells build up and form scales and itchy, dry patches.
In research about Dead Sea Salt and its effect on patients suffering from psoriasis, Dr. J. Arndt made a study on fifty patients aged between 14 and 77 years old who were treated with Dead Sea Salts. The baths were controlled and skin of the patients was thoroughly rinsed with running water. Patients were treated with 3-4 Dead Sea Salt baths per week, for 3 weeks. Results showed that the majority of patients’ symptoms were significantly diminished within the first week of treatment, with steady improvements observed in the following weeks. The most important noted relief was from the itching associated with psoriasis. More than half (54%) of the patients were totally healed, while 22 cases marked impressive improvements.
That’s not all. Sufferers of eczema, acne, and dermatitis have all benefited from soaking in the salts.
Then there’s sleep! The magnesium content in the salt make up will be absorbed by the body and promote better well-being and sleep. Sleep is an essential ingredient in an overall wellness plan. Anything you can do to promote better sleep is something worth looking into.
And those with achy joints can rejoice, for the salt has the power to heal agents of pain. According to a study done by Dr. I. Machtey, a majority of patients treated with the salts reported improved mobility, less pain, and a reduction in pain killers after weekly baths.
Pour yourself a bath, add salt, and relax. Your body will figure out the rest!
