For years you’ve likely believed milk should be a part of your diet.

Part of that has to do with the fact that so many people have been drinking it for so long.

Since man first domesticated cows we’ve been drinking the milk they make for their calves.

And with new advertising power, the dairy industry has repeatedly reinforced the idea that milk “Does a body good.”

That might not be true. There’s actually a growing body of evidence that indicates it isn’t true.

One of the reasons is milk from cows is not made for the human body. In all reality cows’ milk is for their calves, not people. Humans are the only species that willfully drink the milk from another animal.

Another reason is milk is only meant for the development of infants. Again take a look at the natural world and ask yourself how many full grown animals are at their mother’s teat. The answer of course is zero.

But these reasons aside there are actually a few others.

Dr. Loren Cordain, author of “The Paleo Diet,” has listed the following reasons to avoid milk.

1. Of all foods, cow’s milk consumed by humans is number one when it comes to causing food allergies.

2. Early consumption (less than 1-2 yrs of age) of cow milk by infants increases the risk for type 1 diabetes

3. Cow milk drinking is implicated with a variety of autoimmune diseases including but not limited to multiple sclerosis, type 1 diabetes, Crohn’s disease, and ulcerative colitis

4. In large epidemiological studies published by researchers from the Harvard School of Public Health, cow milk drinking has been shown to be strongly associated with acne

5. Cow milk drinking by either infants, young children or even their nursing mother’s has been shown to cause colic in babies

6. Cow milk drinking has been shown to promote heart disease from a variety of mechanisms other than the saturated fat content of whole milk

7. Milk contains an astonishing number (more than 75 – see list below) of hormones, and bioactive peptides of which many likely breech the gut barrier and interact with the immune system and normal physiological function. One of the most problematic is cow insulin, which is involved in increasing the risk for type 1 diabetes in young children. Also alarming are the estrogens found in cow milk. One of these estrogens, estrone sulfate, has high bioavailability — meaning that it escapes human digestive enzymes and has been shown to readily enter the human bloodstream following milk ingestion. Lifelong elevation of estrogens in women increase the risk for breast and ovarian cancers and in men prostate and testicular cancers.

The truth is the modern food supply depends on dairt.

Most foods use some kind of dairy in their ingredients. And it’s a billion dollar industry that isn’t going to go down without a fight.

However, organic milk that has not been pasteurized and comes from the milk of grass fed cows is recommended by some.

Why?

For one it still contains many of the healthy bacteria and enzymes that aid in digestion.

Secondly is that kind of milk does not have the hormones so much conventional cow milk has.

If it’s had sparingly, it can be incorporated into your diet.

One of the things you can replace milk with is coconut milk and coconut oil.

Look out for an article on coconut oil coming soon.
